Tucked away in the far North-East of India alongside the border of Myanmar, lies the state of Nagaland. Although technically part of India, the Naga people are originally descended from Mongolian hill tribes.

Still practising ancient arts and traditions the Nagas are fiercely and often violently opposed to Indian rule.

Headhunting was commonplace amongst the various tribes. Although officially stopped in the 1930s, the practice was still in place in more remote areas well into the 1970s.

Some of the older males photographed were headhunters.
